Program Description: Emergency Assistance for households facing an urgent crisis that has caused financial strain. Households that do not qualify for existing state or federal programs will be prioritized.

Program: Springwell's Nutrition Program for Watertown Older Adults
Grant: $20,000
Program Description: Springwell's Nutrition Program provides a three-pronged approach to providing meals: Community Dining, Grab & Go Meals, and Home-Delivered Meals. Grant funds will help offset a critical gap in funding the transportation of home-delivered meals in Watertown.

Grant: $20,000
Program Description: A one-time rental assistance payment available to low-income residents (earning no more than 60% AMI) in Watertown with proof of need. To maximize the impact of funds, this program will coordinate with the Watertown Housing Authority and Wayside to support households outside the Watertown Housing Authority.

Program Description: A one-time rental assistance program marketed to all Family Program tenants. Eligible applicants must have rental arrears that predate the month funds are awarded to WHA.

Program: Helen Robinson Wright Charitable Fund
Grant: $10,000
Program Description: The Helen Robinson Wright Fund at First Parish responds to requests from Watertown residents for assistance with rent, utilities, and food. In coordination with Wayside, half of the funds will be allocated to rental assistance.

Program: 100 Years of Arshile Gorky: Watertown-Cambridge Greenway Mural
Grant: $2,500
Program Description: Support for a public mural along the Watertown-Cambridge Greenway honoring the life and work of Arshile Gorky, a pioneering figure in abstract expressionism and survivor of the Armenian Genocide. Commissioned by the Watertown Public Arts and Culture Committee in partnership with the Massachusetts DCR and local cultural institutions, the mural will explore themes such as immigration, identity, trauma, and artistic innovation.

Program: Kingian Nonviolence Training

Program Description: Support for a free, intergenerational Kingian Nonviolence Conflict Reconciliation course in Watertown, rooted in the teachings of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. This 16-hour program offers participants of all ages the opportunity to learn the six principles and six action steps of nonviolence through dialogue, reflection, and skill-building activities.

Program Description: Support for Watertown Celebrates Indigenous Peoples Day 2025, a community event honoring Indigenous culture, history, and contemporary contributions. The celebration will feature performances by the Red Hawk Drummers and Dancers, storytelling, traditional arts demonstrations, hands-on children’s activities, and a variety of Indigenous vendors.

Program Description: Support for Voices of Home, a multi-disciplinary performance at the Mosesian Center for the Arts in March 2026. Through original compositions, traditional Arabic music, storytelling, and sensory experiences, the project explores the artists’ intertwined Iraqi Muslim and Jewish family histories, inviting reflection on identity, memory, and shared heritage. The program will also include a free online Community Conversation to engage the public in exploring their own cultural roots through art and storytelling.

Program: FC Academy Filmmaking Program
Grant: $5,000
Program Description: Funding for FC Academy’s hands-on filmmaking programs for youth in partnership with the Watertown Recreation Department and Watertown Cable Access. Open to students in grades K–8 from families with demonstrated need, the program will offer a no-cost, week-long summer camp and year-round Saturday morning classes where students learn storytelling, filming, and editing skills while creating original short films. All equipment and instruction are provided, and student films may be featured in the Boston International Kids Film Festival at the Mosesian Center for the Arts.

Program Description: Support for Mount Auburn Cemetery’s 2025 Summer SOLSTICE event which blends art, nature, and wellness to create a restorative community experience. The event includes yoga, mindfulness and awe walks, live music, poetry readings, horticulture tours, and a nature-themed Bookmobile—all set within the Cemetery’s serene landscape. In 2025, Mount Auburn will increase economic accessibility through the Card to Culture Program, offering free or low-cost programming to eligible participants.

Program: Food gardens for low-income families at Lexington Gardens

Program Description: Funding for a pilot community garden at Lexington Gardens, developed in partnership between Watertown Community Gardens and the Watertown Housing Authority. The project will establish 4–5 raised beds for residents to grow food, supported by in-kind contributions from both organizations, including tools, planting guidance, and ongoing volunteer support. This initial effort aims to promote healthy eating, community connection, and long-term garden sustainability, with hopes of expanding the program in future seasons.

Program Description: Funding of Project Literacy’s 9-week summer ESOL course designed specifically for Watertown parents of school-aged children. Combining beginner-level English instruction with seminars on local resources—such as childcare, health, immigrant rights, and family activities—the program promotes language development and community connection. Free childcare and peer translation support will be provided.
