A Gift in Your Will

Anyone can make a gift in their will or trust, called a bequest, to the Watertown Community Foundation.  It can be an effective way to create a legacy of positive change  for the people who live and work in Watertown for future generations.

Bequests can be given as:

  • A percentage of an estate

  • A specific dollar amount

  • A gift of personal property, such as real estate or art work

  • The remainder of your estate after all taxes, specific bequests, and administrative costs have been distributed.

  • A gift that happens only under certain circumstances (i.e. in the event my spouse does not survive me).

How do I do this?

Even if you already have a will in place, you can add an amendment to it called a codicil.  Since the codicil doesn’t replace the will, it can be a simple, inexpensive way to make a bequest to the Foundation.

It’s easy.  A simple sentence inserted in your will or trust by an attorney is all that’s needed.  For example: I give (the sum of $ or percentage of my estate) to The Watertown Community Foundation of Watertown, Massachusetts, a not-for-profit, 501 (c)(3) tax exempt corporation and include our the Federal Tax ID number for the Foundation.

If you are considering leaving The Watertown Community Foundation in your will, please contact Tia Tilson at tia.tilson@watertownfoundation.org for the Foundation’s tax ID and to answer additional questions.
